Privacy Policy

Spurr is a running app. A runner sets up a race and shares a link; friends and family use that link to record a short voice message — a “spurr” — which plays in the runner’s ear at a chosen point during the race. This policy covers both the Spurr iOS app and this website.

• Your voice recording. Recorded in your browser when you press record, and uploaded only when you choose to send it.
• The name you type. Shown to the runner so they know who the spurr is from. You can put anything you like.

We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect your email address, phone number or location.

• Race details you enter — the name you give the run, its date and distance, and the milestones you set.
• Location, during a race only. While a race is running, the app uses your device’s location to measure how far you have gone, so each spurr plays at the right milestone. It also records the shape of your route so you can see it afterwards. Location is not collected when a race is not in progress.
• Sign in with Apple, if you use it. This is optional. If you sign in, we receive an identifier from Apple and your name, which Apple shares with us only the first time you sign in. We do not request or receive your email address. Signing in lets your races follow you to a new device.
• A push notification token, if you allow notifications. This lets your phone show a notification when a spurr arrives — it identifies your device to Apple's notification service, not you personally.

Your profile name is held only on your own device and is never uploaded.

Recordings are stored so the runner can play them during and after their race. They are held at long, randomly generated web addresses that are not listed or searchable.

Anyone who has one of those addresses can play the recording without signing in. The address is hard to guess, but it is not protected by a password. Please treat a spurr as something you are comfortable being heard by the runner and anyone they choose to share it with.

Recordings and race data are stored with Supabase, on Amazon Web Services infrastructure in London (eu-west-2). Some data may be processed outside the UK by these providers in the course of running the service.

Recordings and race data are kept so a runner can listen back after the race. A runner can delete individual spurrs from within the app at any time, which removes them from our systems.

If you recorded a spurr and want it removed, contact us with rough details — the runner’s name and roughly when you sent it — and we will delete it.

• We don’t sell your data.
• We don’t use it for advertising or profiling.
• We don’t run third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
• We don’t listen to recordings except where needed to fix a fault you have reported.

Spurr is not aimed at children under 13. A child may well appear in a recording made by a parent — that is fine and expected — but we do not knowingly collect data directly from children.

If you are in the UK or EU you can ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to the address below and we will respond within one month.
