Terms of Service

Spurr is a running app: a runner sets up a race and shares a link; friends and family use that link to record a short voice message — a “spurr” — which plays in the runner’s ear at a chosen point during the race. These terms cover the Spurr iOS app and this website together. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your data.

Spurr is currently in beta and free to use. We may introduce paid plans in future — if we do, we'll tell you the price and terms clearly before you're asked to pay anything, and nothing you already have will be taken away or locked behind a paywall without notice.

When you record a spurr, you're sending a short personal message to a specific runner, to be played during their race and kept afterwards so they can listen back. By sending one, you confirm:

• It's your own voice, or you have permission to record who you did.
• You're comfortable with the runner hearing it, keeping it, and sharing it with people they choose — see “Who can hear a spurr” in our Privacy Policy.
• It doesn't contain anything abusive, threatening, hateful, or otherwise intended to harm rather than encourage.

You keep ownership of what you record. By sending it, you give the runner it's addressed to a licence to play, keep and share it, and you give us a licence to store and deliver it as part of running the service.

You're responsible for the race details you enter and for deciding who to share your link with. Because a share link works for anyone who has it, treat it the way you'd treat any other link you don't want a stranger to stumble onto.

We don't review spurrs before they're sent. If a spurr is reported to us, or we otherwise become aware one breaks these terms, we may remove it. We may suspend or close an account used to abuse the service — to harass someone, for example, or to send spurrs that aren't genuine.

Spurr is provided as it is. In particular, we can't guarantee a spurr will play at exactly the right moment — GPS accuracy varies, and a race is a physically demanding place to run software. We'll do our best, but we're not liable for a spurr that plays late, early, or not at all.

We may update these terms as the app changes. If we make a change that meaningfully affects your rights, we'll do our best to let existing users know.
